We have all been there, alarm goes off early in the morning you get up shower, get yourself ready for the day ahead, if you have a family you also get them sorted, you then look down or up and sees the time, you have thirty minutes to be at work, phew you have made it to work in the nick of time.


Twenty minutes pass and the tummy monsters begins to rumble, it then dawns on you that you haven’t had breakfast, so you goes into the staff kitchen hunting through the cupboard or your desk drawers to find what to munch on, to last you till possibility lunch time, but wait you forgot your wallet or purse.

The answer is to stop having such eating emergencies at work is planning ahead, and In this article i will show you how to do this. It does take some planning, but it isn’t as hard as you might think.


Here are some ideas to help you get started, to making a list of healthy, on-the-go foods that you’ll enjoy eating, that’s minimally processed but also contains a high ratio of protein, some healthy fats, and some carbs to cover your basis so you can satisfy your monster.


1-A few packs of Dried meats, such as beef jerky or biltong or a few packs of protein bar in your desk drawers, or a few tins of either tuna/sardines, even better yet some prepared hard boiled eggs from the evening before will cover your protein needs when the time arises.

2-A few packs of Un-salted nuts such as cashews, almonds or pecan will do the trick, A Small jar of Nut butters which is great for dipping fruits or veggies which you like will also provide a great source of healthy fats .

3-Some Raw Fruits & Veggies such as carrots, cucumber, celery, apples, plums or oranges are all great warm or cold but more so sweets and tangy to the taste buds and also great sources of carbs and easy to travel with.

4-A few small packet of Cheese and crackers, come on who doesn’t loves this combinations. Remember: the goal is to tame the tummy monster not grab the nearest donuts and cupcakes left over from last Fridays staff meeting.

5-And finally water bottles with water infuse by lime, lemon or fruits to give you that refreshing taste to wash it all down.


Now that I have given you some idea the next step is to actually find a day on the weekend or weekday to buy the foods on your list, and transport them to your workplace for days like today.


You will need to Invest in Small storage containers or zip lock plastic bags. You need individual containers to put your food in. Put one or two pieces of cheese in a container, Toss some nuts in one container,cut up fruit in another. A few packs of jerky or hard boiled egg Also, you don’t have to prepare everything in advance. In a pinch, you can eat a big bell pepper just like an apple! Just have a plan so you can get it fast when needed. Some things don’t have to be separately packaged, such as your nut butter you can get small jars of your favourite flavours in most supermarket these days which will fit perfect in your desk, just remember not to eat all in one sitting.


You’ve done the hard part. You’ve figured out what foods will make you happy and help you through these moments, you’ve stocked up on them, you have gathered what you need for transport.
All that is left is making it happen. You have to take the food with you when you leave the house on a less stressful day like today. The first few times you do this, it will seem complicated and tedious. But eventually it will become a habit and ingrain into your subconscious making it easier with time As it has to be easy, or you won’t do it.

The great result is that when life gets in way like today and realize you have awoken the tummy monster You will have an assortment of healthy and energy promoting foods at your fingertips.
